Hello there! I am Abigail Hopkins (she/her) and identify as a cisgender female. I am a Resident in Counseling who brings a compassionate, individualized approach to my work with adolescents, adults, and couples. I am passionate about serving marginalized communities, with a special focus on LGBTQ+ individuals and those who have historically lacked access to affirming mental health care.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from James Madison University in 2022. In August 2025, I completed my Masters of Science in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling at Virginia Commonwealth University.
My therapeutic style is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), and mindfulness practices. At the core of my therapeutic work is a person-centered and strengths-based approach—I strongly believe each client is the expert of their own story, and I am simply a guide along the way. I meet clients where they are, tailoring support to their unique goals and needs.
I am deeply committed to creating a safe, authentic, and empathic space where clients feel seen and heard. I value humor, connection, and the power of the therapeutic relationship as key tools for growth and healing. I am very excited for the opportunity to take on this journey with you!
Outside of sessions, I enjoy painting, cooking, collecting antiques, spending time with family and friends, caring for animals, and listening to live music.
