Welcome! I am Harlee James, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. I received my Bachelor’s in Biology with a minor in Dance, from University of Richmond in 2015 and then completed my Master’s in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University, College of Health Professions in 2021.

I have previous experience working with children, adolescents, and families in the residential setting who seek help for various mental health diagnoses including but not limited to depression, anxiety, trauma, and maladaptive functioning. While in the residential setting, I enjoyed working closely with all parts of the individual’s system and environment to create a comprehensive and inclusive therapeutic treatment plan. My time in residential assisted me in expanding my experience to feel competent in providing individual, family and couples counseling services to people of a variety of populations and ages.

After about two years in the residential setting, I was eager to pursue a new opportunity and setting, thus I joined Realign Your Mind Counseling Services, LLC.  I found I aligned with Realign’s mission to embrace a holistic and human-centered approach that incorporates wellness services, at the client’s request.

As part of Realign’s team, I am able to utilize a person-centered approach with a variety of diverse modalities, including but not limited to cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectal-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and various creative and expressive interventions. I am also educated in the practice of Sound Healing as an alternative wellness support that may be used in addition to talk therapy.

I aim to individualize my approach to meet the unique needs of each of my clients. My practice centers around establishing a warm and empathetic alliance with my clients so as to create a safe environment that supports them in embracing vulnerability. I support my clients in identifying their unmet areas of need, their strengths, and how to utilize that knowledge and awareness to improve their overall quality of life. I am a true believer that the client is the expert on themselves and as the therapist, I am the co-pilot assisting them in their healing and therapeutic journey. I look forward to going on this voyage with you!
